Leadership Models, Methods, and Applications: Progress and Remaining Blind Spots

Abstract

The current chapter builds on an earlier chapter published in this series back in 2002 that offered an integrative review of the leadership literature up to that point in time. In this updated chapter, we expand the coverage of our earlier review of the leadership literature by going into more detail in areas that were just emerging in the literature. We also introduce some new areas of literature and critiques, which were not covered in our previous chapter. The primary purpose of this chapter is to provide a concise overview of the state of the leadership field, to highlight examples of research in previous, current and emerging areas, and to offer our critiques and observations to help advance future leadership theory, research and practice.
