Swimming Sports

Abstract

The “Aquatic Sports” comprised of six forms of competition: pool swimming (divided into short course 25 m and long course 50 m/Olympic events), open water swimming (distances ranging from 5 to 57 K with the 10 K being the Olympic Marathon Open Water event), diving (1 and 3 m spring board, 3 and 10 m platform), high diving (24 m for women and 27 m for men), artistic swimming (formerly known as synchronized swimming) and water polo. These disciplines require diverse skills and training. As expected, the injuries, dangers and health risks placed on the athletes are equally diverse, as will be covered in this chapter.
