The Structural and Magnetic Properties of Nd1−xTiO3forx= 0, 0.05, and 0.10

Abstract

The structural and magnetic properties of members belonging to the perovskite family, Nd1−xTiO3forx= 0, 0.05, and 0.10, have been investigated. It is found that these compounds adopt the GdFeO3-type structure belonging to the space groupPnma. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate paramagnetic Curie–Weiss behavior at temperatures typically above 100 K. Antiferromagnetic ordering of the titanium sublattice is observed atTNof 90 and 75 K forx= 0 and 0.05, respectively. Investigation by low-temperature neutron diffraction reveals evidence for magnetic ordering on both the titanium and neodymium sublattices. The magnetic structure is found to be consistent with that of PrTiO3and CeTiO3, having an FxCyconfiguration on the Nd3+sublattice and a GzFxconfiguration for the moments on the Ti3+sublattice. At 10 K, the refined magnetic moments on the Nd3+sublattice are determined to be 1.11(5) and 0.99(5) μBand on the Ti3+sublattice, 0.87(8) and 0.74(9) μB, forx= 0 and 0.05, respectively. The antiferro$fxmagnetic behavior vanishes at thex= 0.10 composition.
