International standardisation of products and services for ageing societies 1

Abstract

This chapter will focus on the role of standardisation globally, specifically focusing on recent developments in the work of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 314 Ageing Societies. ISO provides an ideal platform for developing new ideas to reflect our fast-changing world and community needs. Ageing societies bring new economic and social opportunities. ISO/TC 314 plays a critical role in supporting ageing societies and encouraging organisations to provide high-quality services and products. New standards will help global communities adapt and thrive as ageing societies. The Committee’s initial work has been concentrated on three main areas of standardisation: Age-inclusive workforce, dementia-inclusive communities and carer-inclusive organisations.
