Hexadecapole vibrations in osmium isotopes

Abstract

Measurements of inelastic α-particle scattering indicate that the 43+ levels in 188,190,192Os previously interpreted as two-phonon excitations are populated predominantly by strong E4 transitions. This confirms a recent suggestion that these levels are hexadecapole vibrations.
