The relative effectiveness of salt stimuli for the rat

Abstract

Determined the relative detectability of 8 salts over a molar concentration range of .0125-.80 in an experiment with 5 male hooded rats. The detectability of those salts, which have a strong sour or bitter quality, is substantially greater when compared with sodium chloride, than their relative effectiveness as determined by the size of the evoked response in the chorda tympani.
