Molten salt loop heating system design

Abstract

A Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) is one of the designs among the Generation IV reactor concepts. For the purpose of conducting MSR research, a molten salt (a LiF, NaF and KF compound known as FLiNaK was chosen for relative ease in fabrication) coolant was investigated. A Molten Salt Loop (MSL) iscurrently being developed at UOIT to investigate aging related degradation effects and thermal storage applications of FLiNaK. The MSL is designed in order for a natural circulation of FLiNaK can be created. This design feature will verify the thermal hydraulics and natural circulation capability of FLiNaK.
