RELIABILITY OF STRUCTURAL CERAMICS AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES

The utilisation of structural ceramic materials in critical components operating at elevated temperature requires that their reliability ove the design life be assured. The understanding of the processes which control the failure and reliability of these materials at high temperatures is currently at early stage. In this paper some of the problems associated with the use of structural ceramics under these conditions are outlined and the kind of information which is required is discussed.
