A Web-Based Approach to Real-Time Machine Condition Monitoring and Control

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop a web-based approach to remote machine condition monitoring and control enabled by Java technologies and based on publish-subscribe design pattern. On top of a Wise-ShopFloor framework (W eb-based i ntegrated s ensor-driven e-ShopFloor ), this system can serve real-time data from bottom up and can function as a constituent component of e-manufacturing, particularly for web-based collaborative manufacturing. It is designed to use the popular client-server architecture, VCM (view-control-model) design pattern, and publish-subscribe design pattern for secure device control and efficient machine condition monitoring. This paper presents the basis of the developed technology for building a web-based monitoring and control system that can be easily integrated to the e-manufacturing paradigm. A case study of a tripod parallel kinematic machine is carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness and validate our approach to web-based real-time machine condition monitoring and remote control for collaborative manufacturing.Copyright © 2005 by ASME
