The Very Elderly Admitted to ICU

Abstract

(Abstracted from Crit Care Med, 43:1352–1360, 2015) End-of-life care can be inconsistent with patient preferences. More than 70% of critically ill elderly patients receive life-sustaining therapies when, in fact, preserving quality of life is more important to them than duration of survival.
