COMPUTER STUDIES OF DISLOCATION NETWORKS AND CELLS.
Abstract
Dislocation cells, primarily those involving hexagonal screw dislocation networks, and their prototypes were investigated. Stress distributions about the cells were calculated by electronic computer and displayed by means of contour diagrams obtained from the line printer, employing symbols of different darkness and overlaid symbols to indicate the intensity of the stresses. An important previously unknown feature was discovered, namely rotational stress fields of the orientation and kind expected when a cylindrical piece of material is rotated about its cylinder axis with respect to its surroundings.
