ACOUSTIC EMISSION MONITORING OF LARGE STRUCTURES UNDER CORROSIVE ENIVRONMENT.
Abstract
THE PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF ACOUSTIC EMISSION AS A MONITORING TECHNIQUE FOR DETERMINATION OF THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF LARGE STRUCTURES EXPOSED TO A CORROSIVE ENVIRONMENT ARE REVIEWED. THIS INCLUDES AN INTRODUCTION TO THE TECHNIQUE OF ACOUSTIC EMISSION, THE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS OF AN ACOUSTIC EMISSION SYSTEM AND THE EFFECT OF CORROSION VARIABLES ON ACOUSTIC EMISSION PARAMETERS. THE PRINCIPLES OF USING MULTICHANNEL ACOUSTIC EMISSION EQUIPMENT TO MONITOR LARGE STRUCTURES ARE OUTLINED AND SPECIFIC EXAMPLES ARE GIVEN FOR THE APPLICATION OF THE TECHNIQUE TO DIFFERENT STRUCTURES UNDER SEVERAL OPERATING CONDITIONS.
