MINICOMPUTER BASED SELSPOT AND EMG SYSTEM FOR STUDYING MANDIBULAR MOVEMENT.

Abstract

Many researchers have utilized electromyography (EMG) to study the function of the masticatory system in both normal subjects and patients with dental malocclusion and deformities of the facial skeleton. Early systems required manual analysis and correlation of EMG and movement data. Computer-based systems have been developed to acquire and process EMG data and EMG and mandibular movement data. This paper presents a minicomputer-based acquisition and analysis system which can acquire simultaneous mandibular movement and EMG data, process this data, calculate a number of movement and EMG parameters and generate clinically useful graphical displays.
