Decarburization of low carbon steel melts with CO2 - O2 under vacuum

Abstract

Decarburization of low carbon steel melts with CO2-O2 under vacuum was analyzed. It was found that with little nitrogen and hydrogen in the steel, and a low freeboard temperature, CO2 reactivity can be calculated from the off-gas composition. No influence on CO2 reactivity was observed for the experimentally investigated range of vessel pressure and steel temperature.
