Fault-Tolerant Operation of Asymmetrical Six-Phase Motor Drives in EV Applications

Abstract

This paper attempts to investigate the fault tolerance capability of asymmetrical six-phase drives in electric vehicle (EV) applications. The analysis starts with the component-level study which is the machine operation in healthy and faulty conditions. To the authors’ best knowledge, embedding the fault-tolerant analysis of six-phase machines in an EV system-level model has not been addressed yet. The system-level which includes the vehicle model is analyzed and simulated employing the results from the component-level. A comparison between the healthy and faulty conditions are presented to demonstrate the ability of the vehicle under faulty conditions with acceptable performance over a driving cycle.
