Detrimental age-associated changes in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue increase the risk of sarcopenia. Age-related changes in myokines, such as myostatin and irisin, as well as adipokines, such as leptin and adiponectin, contribute to cross-talk between muscle and adipose tissue.
