Effects of warm-supplementing kindey-yang capsules on behavior of depression model rats

Abstract

To investigate the effects of Warm-Supplementing Kindey-Yang (WSKY) capsule, a traditional Chinese medicine, on the behavior of depression model rats. Methods: The chronic stressed depression rats were established by chronic unpredictable mild stress and separation for 21 days. Forty SD male rats were randomly divided into four groups including normal control group, depression model group, fluoxetine+depression model group, and WSKY+ depression model group. The behaviors of rats were evaluated by open-field test, body weight, the consumption of saccharose, and emotional behavior test. Results: Compared with normal control group, body weight and consumption of saccharose of rats in depression model group decreased remarkably and square crossing, rears and grooming frequency reduced while central stopped increased in open-field test (all P<0.05). On the 22nd day of WSKY treatment, all the records of the behavior testing of WSKY group were significantly ameliorated (all P<0.05) when compared with those in depression model group, while there were no significant difference when compared with fluoxetine group. Conclusion: WSKY has antidepression effects on depression model rats.
