Montelukast in the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis

SUMMARY Asthma and allergic rhinitis are common diseases that impact a large number of people worldwide. Safe and effective treatments are needed to reduce the morbidity and, in asthma, the mortality associated with them. In this article, we review the use of a leukotriene receptor antagonist, montelukast, in the treatment of these conditions. This article provides an overview of the pharmacology of montelukast and the guidline recommendations for its use in asthma and allergic rhinitis.
