Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis associated with pleural effusion and pneumothorax

Abstract

Invasive aspergillosis is a fungal infection which is observed increasingly in immunocompromised patients due to the use of more aggressive chemotherapeutic regimens. This is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in neutropenic patients. Cavitation and Pleural-based, wedge-shaped lesions are the most distinctive appearances af invasive aspergillosis. A rare combination of spontaneous pneumothorax and pleural effusion associated with systemic aspergillosis in a child with high-grade lymphoma is described.
