Advancing Psychotherapy Integration for Treatment of Personality Disorders

Abstract

This commentary marks the contributions made by each of the articles in this series to developing integrated approaches for patients with personality disorders. This series of articles highlights the progress that has been made based on studying evidence-based psychotherapies for borderline personality disorder, and this progress is not only impacting the treatment of patients with personality disorders but also advancing our whole understanding of psychotherapy interventions. The commentary concludes by noting that none of these articles give enough attention to the central role of fostering the patient’s sense of self-agency, and recommends that, in the future, this aspect of therapy must be further studied.
