Rehabilitation medicine for children with disorder of the postural and locomotor apparatus; vision and approach

Children with longlasting impairments in posture or movement are or may become limited in their daily functioning. The focus of pediatric (medical) rehabilitation professionals is on functioning of the child in terms of 'activity' and 'participation' in the context of the environment, within the perspective of growth and development. This article discusses a generic approach in pediatric rehabilitation medicine in three cases with a musculoskeletal disorder. The conceptual model of the 'International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health' (ICF) of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Rehabilitation Activities Profile for Children are applied.
