The Canadian Experience with Hypofractionation

Abstract

The majority of women with early breast cancer are treated with breast-conserving surgery followed by whole breast irradiation (WBI). Randomized trails have demonstrated that hypofractionated WBI is as effective as conventional WBI, with similar late toxicity [1-4]. Despite an increase in the use of hypofractionation in Canada and the USA after publication of these trails, practices remain variable [39-42]. This chapter describes the Canadian experience with hypofractionated WBI.
