BURIALS | Excavation and Recording Techniques

Abstract

The bioarchaeological analysis of burials and cemeteries provides us with a wealth of information about life and death in the past. Systematic excavation, documentation, and analysis of human skeletal remians are essential for extracting the maximum amount of information from the archaeological record. This article describes methods of locating burials, categories of burials, and proper excavation procedures. The contribution of a trained osteologist is strongly recommended for all stages of excavation and analysis.
