  • Abstract. The paper reports the findings of a study designed to measure the benefits accruing to citizens of the Lower Fraser River from the water quality environment and in the light of alternative social values. Twelve indicators of these benefits, or social appropriateness, are derived by using direct survey procedures that differ from previous methodological attempts to measure the benefits of a public good like water quality.
