Preparation of radioactive targets for charged-particle nuclear spectroscopy at the CERN-ISOLDE project
Abstract
An experiment has tested the feasibility of preparing shorter-lived radioactive targets for charged-particle transfer spectroscopy with an on-line isotope separator. Samples of cesium isotopes (131, 134, 135) have been collected at the ISOLDE facility at CERN and shipped to the Van de Graaff accelerator at Garching near Munich. Deuteron elastic scattering indicated that targets of requisite thickness and purity can be prepared.
