T-19. Left frontal EEG activation in the development of toddlers' sociability
Abstract
Frontal brain electrical activity (EEG) was measured at 4-months-of-age in a group of infants, some of whom were predicted to be behaviorally inhibited or socially outgoing in early childhood. We found that left frontal EEC activation at age 4-months was related to sociability during the second year of life. Toddlers who exhibited greater relative left frontal activation at 4-months-of-age displayed more behaviors indicative of sociability towards a stranger at 14-months-of-age than toddlers who displayed greater relative right frontal activation at 4-months-of-age.
