Two-layer frequency domain property measurements-experiment and hybrid model

Abstract

Measurement of the optical properties of human tissue is useful for noninvasive monitoring of hemoglobin, therapeutic drugs, and other chromophores. A two-layered model such as skin over muscle or skin over fat, while not anatomically complete, may prove adequate for these applications. We apply a hybrid Monte Carlo-diffusion model to recovery of the optical properties and upper layer thickness of tissue phantoms from spatially-resolved frequency domain measurements.
