NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF TRANSIENT TURBULENT BUOYANT FLOWS.
Abstract
A general purpose computer code, FONS-TURB, has been developed for the analysis of multi-dimensional transient turbulent buoyant flows. The model is based upon the closure of the time averaged conservation equations for natural convection using a two equation k- epsilon model of turbulence. The complete set of the conservation equations is solved using a finite difference scheme based on a simplified marker and cell technique. The code has been used to simulate air circulation in two-dimensional square enclosure with vertical walls held at different constant temperatures. Good quantitative and qualitative agreement was obtained with published numerical and experimental data.
