Advanced coke quality characterization and cokemaking techniques based on in-depth understanding of coke behavior inside blast furnace: A review

Abstract

The future potential and pressure of energy-saving and CO2 emission in iron and steel industry lie on the ironmaking and cokemaking processes which are connected by the utilization of coke. Under the twin pressure of limited coking coal resources and stringent environmental regulations, ironmaking and cokemaking operations have joined forces to improve the cokemaking techniques based on coke behavior and quality requirement inside blast furnace in recent years. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the recent advancements in uncovering coke behavior inside blast furnace, understanding specific requirements of blast furnace for coke function, as well as development of cokemaking techniques to improve coke properties. This literature survey has shown that it is essentially important to design the coke for meeting properties required in the blast furnace based on its specific function.
