MEASUREMENT OF ELASTIC CONSTANTS OF SiC/Zn-27Al

Abstract

SiC/Zn-27Al composites with volume% of SiC particulate varying up to 57 vol.% were fabricated by squeeze casting technique. The distribution of particulates in the matrix was maintained as uniform as possible, such that the fabricated composites had isotropic properties. The elastic constants of the composites were measured using an ultrasonic method. Young's Modulus and Shear Modulus were found lo increase with respect to the vol.% of SiC. However, a local maximum was found in the Bulk Modulus at about 30 vol.% of SiC.
