Dispersion and joining of Carbon-Nano-Tubes

Abstract

The aim of this study is to disperse and join Carbon-Nano-Tubes (CNT) for nano/microelectronic applications. The CNT have been known as the prototypical nanoscale building blocks because of their unique mechanical and electrical properties. In this research, to explore CNTs potential in fabrication of nano-devices, a number of methods have been employed to disperse using ultrasound with various aqueous solutions. The nanotubes undergone ultrasonication in different liquids were characterized trough electron microscopy. It is also very important to develop a reliable interconnection among the CNTs, external electrical circuits and mechanical systems for the applications. For this reason, in addition to dispersion, the CNTs were attempted to be joined using nano-soldering using three different types of alloys, and resistance welding. Copyright © 2007 MS&T07®.
