The application of protective coatings on crofer 22 APU

Abstract

In this work, investigations were carried out to develop conductive copper-manganese and cobalt-manganese spinel coatings on Crofer 22APU through electroplating and subsequent annealing. The results revealed that copper-manganese and cobalt-manganese spinel coatings were formed at 600-800°C and a relatively dense layer was formed after the annealing process. Quantitative X-ray analysis showed a uniform distribution of coating elements through the coating thickness. The results of oxidation tests showed that the coatings mitigated chromium evaporation during oxidation at high temperature and the presence of alloy elements from the substrate, such as iron, was negligible in the scale layer.
