Ultra-Broadband Polarization-Independent Silicon Beam Splitter Based on Modal and Symmetry Engineering

Abstract

A novel silicon beam splitter based on modal and symmetry engineering in slot waveguides is reported. We experimentally demonstrate insertion loss and imbalance below 1 dB over a broad bandwidth of 390 nm, for both TE and TM polarizations.
