Tracking the gamma field in a CANDU fuel bundle through G4STORK

Abstract

The Geant4 Stochastic Reactor Kinetics Simulation (G4STORK) software was updated to create and track gamma particles. This was validated on a single bundle of a CANDU reactor, mapping the gamma radiation throughout a lattice cell. The deposited energy density was determined throughout the bundle for a variety of gamma-matter interactions. Finally, the deposited energy density was used to calculate the heating experienced by the Calandria tube. Future applications of the gamma tracking can be to improve upon future reactor designs, and can improve the validity of the results achieved at research reactors.
