Intra-cavity all-optical wavelength conversions based on LiNbO3 QPM waveguides

Abstract

An intra-cavity scheme containing a quasiphase-matched (QPM) LiNbO 3 waveguide as a wavelength converter and an erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) as a pump source was discussed. It was found that an MgO doped LiNbO3 quasiphase-matched (QPM) waveguide was put inside the fiber ring resonator. It was also found that an amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) was generated in an EDFA that passed through QPM device. This process generated pump power for wavelength conversion. The results show that the proposed scheme could provide a cost effective solution for wavelength converters in practical system applications.
