A Digital Current Control for Switched Reluctance Motor Drives

Abstract

Switched reluctance motors (SRMs) are highly non-linear. Therefore, their control over a wide speed range has unique difficulties. In addition, conventional and classic linear control techniques have limitations. In this paper, a novel digital current control for SRM drives is presented. By treating the system digitally, the controller switches between two pre-defined states to get the desired speed. The proposed control technique does not need any look up tables, is not sensitive to the motor parameter variations, is low cost, and has a wide speed range. Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the proposed digital control approach.
