The streaming current detector (SCD) - What does it really tell us?

Abstract

The polyelectrolyte titration is widely used to monitor the cationic and anionic demand of papermaking suspensions. Most laboratory and online instrumentation is based upon the streaming current detector. In most cases users simply use the end-point generated by the instrumentation. This paper describes the factors controlling the shape of the titration curve and gives examples of systems where viewing the endpoint alone gives misleading results.
