Adsorption of plasma proteins to a platelet resistant polyphosphazene (Polyzene®-F)

Abstract

The role of absorbed proteins in the blood interactions and the identification of proteins absorbed from human plasma to Polyzene®-F was investigated. It was found that Polyzene®-F is a hydrophobic material as the water contact angle indicated an advancing angle of 105±3°. A number of bands were observed indicating that adsorption of proteins had occurred. The observations suggested that Polyzene®-F does not activate the complement system. The results show that the Polyzene®-F had good properties for blood contacting applications.
