SIZE EXCLUSION CHROMATOGRAPHY CHARACTERIZATION OF COPOLYMERS.

Abstract

General remarks on the use of size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) for copolymer fractionation are followed by a description of an experimental program in which the size separation of random styrene/acrylonitrile copolymers (SAN) has been performed. Random SAN copolymers were synthesized by bulk free-radical polymerization at 60 degree C with compositions determined by gas chromatography. Two SEC packing types were investigated. Fractionation mechanism is proposed.
