Saving energy while managing demand in water delivery systems

Abstract

Given that water and energy are fundamentally important for the health and vitality of any community, their excessive consumption is an important issue that any water utility should address. This article questions the problem of treating water demand as a fixed and determining criterion in water distribution system design and examines how water conservation also reduces energy use, thus serving as an additional incentive to encourage utilities to implement demand management schemes.
