INVESTIGATION OF TRANSVERSE STRESSING OF CONCRETE BRIDGE DECKS.

This paper contains a preliminary report of the research in progress on bridge decks at McMaster University. The concept of this research project originated through experience gained on a previous project on behaviour of cantilever bridge slabs under concentrated loads and through discussion with personnel in the Engineering Research and Development Division of the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Communications. Simply put, the project is to investigate the potential for improving the serviceability and economy of bridge decks through use of transverse prestressing.
