ANALYSIS OF MULTISTORY STRUCTURE-FOUNDATION SYSTEMS INCLUDING P-DELTA EFFECTS.
Abstract
Seismic provisions in the National Building Code of Canada do not include either the soil-structure interaction or the P-delta effects. ATC's tentative seismic provisions include guidelines on how to incorporate the above effects in the design of a multistory building. This paper demonstrates the method of application and compares the calculated responses of two (five- and twenty-story) moment resisting steel frames, designed in accordance with the National Building Code of Canada, using Applied Technology Council Equivalent Lateral Force Procedure and Elastic Dynamic Analysis. A method of elastic dynamic analysis of multistory structures on soft soil including P-delta effects is described in this paper.
