Uncertainty analysis of hydrocarbon contaminant transport in subsurface

Abstract

A methodology based on factorial design and Monte Carlo simulation was developed to examine uncertainties in the simulation of petroleum-hydrocarbon contaminants transport in the subsurface. The simulation results reveal that the uncertainties in input parameters will pose considerable influences on the predicted outputs, with mean and variance of soil permeability having significant impacts.
