Self-healing concrete: A critical review

This paper presents a comprehensive literature review on the state-of-the-art of autonomous self-healing concrete using microcapsules. Common capsule shell, core materials, and corresponding manufacturing techniques are summarized. The criteria for a successful self-healing system is identified and approaches to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of self-healing are discussed. The advantages and limitations of autonomous self-healing are identified along with recommendations for future development.
