Protein bioseparation by membrane chromatography using polyelectrolyte gel-coated adsorptive membranes

Abstract

The different factors influencing the separation of proteins by chromatography using polyelectrolyte gel-coated adsorptive membranes were investigated. Purified human serum albumin (HSA) and polyelectrolyte gel coated ion-exchange membranes were used in the experiments. The results showed that the dynamic adsotption of HSA increases with increase in pH. The results also indicated that as the ionic strength of the buffer increases the binding capacity of the membrane decreases.
