Water-in-silicone oil emulsions as delivery vehicles for proteinaceous materials
Abstract
Experiments were conducted to develop formulations to protect protein-based drugs from the stomach but permit release in the higher pH region of the small intenstine. A variety of other enzymes and proteins were examined with different functional silicones. All proteins and enzymes were obtained from Sigma and were incorporated into the aqueous phase of their respective emulsions. The results indicate that water-in-silicone oil emulsions may be an effective mean by which to orally administer proteinaceous drugs.
