abstract

  • Control of the shape of a non-premixed flame in a quiescent environment by injection of a high-velocity central micro-jet has been investigated experimentally. The flame height and shape change significantly as the central co-flow micro-jet is introduced. The flame also becomes free from the buoyancy-induced flickering. We hypothesize that the narrow, strong central jet enhances the entrainment of the surrounding air leading to a larger oxidizer influx and results in a reduction of soot emission.
