Recent advances in subwavelength engineering in integrated optics

Abstract

Recently developed subwavelength structures in silicon waveguides are presented. Subwavelength grating photonic structures are discussed along with emerging practical components that exploit the principle of subwavelength refractive index engineering, including polarization-independent athermal silicon waveguides, ultra-broadband and compact multimode interference couplers, fabrication tolerant polarization rotators and interferometer arrays with subwavelength optical delay lines.
