Dynamic Capacitor Voltage Control of High Power Current Source Converter Fed PMSM Drives for LC Resonance Suppression

Abstract

In this paper, the dynamic capacitor voltage control (DVC) is proposed, designed and applied to suppress the resonance for the high power current source converter (CSC) fed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. The key is to control the capacitor voltage to follow the fundamental voltage reference dynamically. The proposed DVC affords some attractive features: Firstly, it can suppress both the steady-state and the transient resonance effectively; Secondly, it can control the motor current accurately and is insensitive to system parameters; Thirdly, it can satisfy the operating requirements for high power CSC fed drives such as low switching frequency, high modulation index, small DC choke, etc. Both simulation and experiments are given to support the validity of the proposed method.
