Inhibition of grain growth by particle distribution: effect of spatial heterogeneities and of particle strength dispersion

Abstract

The effect of particle strength distribution and particle clustering on particle inhibited grain growth in two dimensions is investigated by a vertex dynamics simulation. Summation rules to predict the ultimate grain size are proposed, and effects of spatial heterogeneities such as particle bands or particle clusters are described qualitatively.
